Young people are likely the most visible group in the fight against climate change in Iceland. For over a year, various youth organisations have come together to hold a weekly climate strike in front of the Icelandic Parliament. Pétur Halldórsson is the chairperson of one of those groups: the Icelandic Youth Environmentalist Association (Ungir umhverfissinnar, or UU). He argues that the government’s current measures towards carbon neutrality do not go far enough. “It’s not enough to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
